ask for oil change, but cost me more money!

Postby sunflower bikle on Wed Aug 27, 2008 5:58 pm

Hello - First, I purchased the Yamaha Star 250 from the Yamaha dealership, after six weeks later, I bring that bike back to the store on Friday for oil change and check everything as the manual book said 600 miles. The bike stayed overnight, because need cool engine. Next day, they didn't call me till one in the afternoon and text the message to me that bike is ready.

I showed up the shop and found out that price for total of $171! I was little angry and why they didn't tell me more services than I said oil change.

They changed oil and add three bulk of oil 10-40 and replace the gasket plus 1.7 hour labor! Before, I checked on the engine, everything look fine as brand new, then after, I checked on the engine again, there look same thing, no change, no fingerprint like dirty oil/grease on it. I don't see any reason for replace the gasket there. Before, the chain was about half inches between lose as normal, then after, it is too tight chain as zero lose. I drove that bike and I don't like that feel too tight, feel like cat burrrr on my body, because chain is too tight.

The Yamaha dealership just started the business a year ago and the tech guys were repair the bikes for thirty years. I felt that they pressured on people to pay more money on the Yamaha motorcycle.

Is that make sense for add three bulk of oil for 250 size engine? Is that normal for replace the gasket for 600 miles? Where is the gasket at?

Let me know

ahhhh, looks like you got ripped off. Because they never called you for an approval to change the oil gasket. You can look up in your manual book ad find out how many quart of oil for your bike. I didnt know we had to take brand new bike back to dealer for oil change after 600 miles.
FYI: many people use 5w-40 (synthetic) oil for motorcycle. You can search online like ' Is 5w-40 good for yamaha motorcycle?' and you will find many people using that kind of oil Either Amsoil or Rotella T synthetic (blue bottle - not white) MUST be 5w-40. Anyway, after the warranty - you can change oil yourself.. save $$ that way.

tsk,tsk cant trust any dealer with high turnover, i have been serviced bikes with electrical problems for long time dealership also same people that work for more than 25 yrs they did admit "we dont like to work any electrical problems "
for your case yamaha star 250 i dont see why need replaced gasket as long it running great no leak !!! :o that price 171 buck ouch !!! for simple oil change adjust chain tenisoner too tight it cause break and lost control should little stack 1/2 to 3/4 depend on model's manf spec. recommended oil as eyebluedeaf reply is correct goahead put amsoil or rotella as ring setting on cyl wall after break in period usually 1k or 1.2k mi oil filter cost 10 bucks along with gasket
